Do you want to give your suede shoes a new look or change the colour of a suede bag or other item? With Angelus Suede Dye, you can dye both suede and nubuck. Unlike leather paint, the dye penetrates the fibres of the material instead of creating a layer on top of the surface.
Here is a simple guide to help you achieve the best result.
1. Clean the suede
Start by cleaning the suede thoroughly. Dirt and dust can prevent the dye from absorbing evenly and affect the final result.
A cleaner such as Angelus Easy Cleaner works well before you begin dyeing.
2. Brush the suede
Gently brush the suede to remove dust and lift the fibres. This helps the dye absorb more evenly and gives a better finish.
If the suede has become flat or stiff, a suede brush is a great help. A suede brush is included in the Angelus Suede & Nubuck Kit, together with products for cleaning and caring for suede.
3. Apply the dye
Use the included applicator or a small brush and apply a thin, even layer over the surface.
Avoid applying too much dye at once. Several thin layers usually give a more even and durable result than one thick layer.
4. Let each layer dry
Allow the dye to dry before applying the next layer.
Continue until you have achieved the desired colour. Once the final layer has been applied, allow the item to dry for around 24 hours before use.
5. Brush the suede again
Once the dye has dried, brush the suede one more time. This helps lift the fibres and restore the soft texture that is characteristic of suede.
6. Protect with a water repellent
To protect the newly dyed suede from dirt and moisture, you can finish with a water-repellent spray, such as Angelus Water Repellent. This helps keep the colour looking fresh and makes the material more resistant to moisture.
Important to remember
- Always clean suede before dyeing.
- Brush the fibres before and after dyeing.
- Apply several thin layers instead of one thick layer.
- Allow the dye to dry between each layer.
- Wait around 24 hours before using the item.
- You can dye suede darker, but you cannot make dark suede lighter with dye.
